Good to know
Which video formats can I inspect?
MediaInfo reads many containers, including MP4, QuickTime MOV, Matroska MKV, WebM, AVI and MXF. Available fields depend on the file. Inspection does not require browser playback support.
Can I check the video's actual codec?
Yes. Video tracks show codec and codec ID when reported, separately from the container. An MP4 extension alone does not tell you whether the video is AVC, HEVC or another codec.
Are frame rate and recording date always available?
No. Missing fields are shown as unavailable. Variable frame rate, incomplete headers or stripped metadata can limit what a file reports. A filesystem modification date is not a recording date.
Does it upload or change the file?
No. MediaInfo runs locally in a worker. Your original file is read in chunks and is never modified. A report may include private tags from the file; review it before sharing.
