Choose the language of the Focus interface

Focus 1.21.3 for Mac offers English, French and German. Change the interface language in Settings. The current Windows release, 1.21.2, offers English and French.

Change menus and settings

The interface setting controls the app’s labels. It does not translate your videos, filenames or spoken audio.

  1. 1

    Open General settings

Open Settings in Focus and select General. Find the Preferences section and its Language selector.

    Settings → General → Preferences → Language

General → Preferences contains the Language selector.
  2. 2

    Choose your interface language

Select English, Français or Deutsch on Mac. Windows 1.21.2 offers English and Français. Check a settings label to see the language change. Changing the website language does not change the desktop app language.

Language → English / Français / Deutsch (Mac)

The Mac language menu offers English, Français and Deutsch.
  3. 3

Check the language after reopening Focus

Close Focus completely and open it again to check that your choice is kept. If a native menu still uses the previous language, check it after this restart. If the choice does not persist, include your Focus version and operating system in a support request.

Quit Focus → Open Focus → Check Language

After reopening Focus, Sprache still shows Deutsch.

Interface language and video language are different

The interface language changes menus, controls and settings. Transcription concerns the speech in the source video and has its own analysis settings. Subtitle translation is another operation. Choosing French menus does not translate the recorded speech or change which audio languages a transcription model supports.

Interface and video language

Which interface languages can I choose?

On Mac 1.21.3, choose English, Français or Deutsch in Settings → General → Preferences → Language. Windows 1.21.2 offers English and Français.

Does changing the interface translate my videos?

No. This setting changes the app’s menus and labels. Transcription and subtitle translation use their own settings.

Can I choose a different language for the website?

The website has its own English/French language selector. Its choice is separate from the Language setting in the desktop app.

Should I translate filenames or technical names?

No. Changing the interface language keeps filenames and paths as they are. Model identifiers, codec names and software names can also remain unchanged.
